Old Challoner's v Old Aloysians

The Old C's juggernaut roared into action this week with a well deserved first victory of the season over a side that won their league last season.

Captain Weisz put behind him revelations about his sordid private life and led out a Challoners side still missing the talents of midfield maestros Powell (groin) and Croucher (thumb - underneath it). Lowes returned to the midfield and big Rich Cawley came in at the heart of the defence to replace Redpath who went down with a mysterious case of gastroenteritis, which manifested itself sometime late Friday night/early Saturday morning

As C's got proceeding underway on the bowling green that is Hervines park, the rain began to drizzle making treacherous conditions underfoot for those wearing a mould. However they came out of the blocks in awesome style and hit the post twice within the first 10 minutes. Firstly Rogers lumbered forward and powered a header off the far upright and then Allen rolled one against the same post after being set up by some neat play down the right.

It came as no surprise when the deadlock was broken. Weisz rampaged down the right and miss hit his cross but it fell to Fuzz to fizz it in off the far post, which put an immediate stop to Baker's moaning at the far post for a shite cross. C's had the scent of the kill in their nostrils and continued to pile on the early pressure and soon the lead was doubled.

Allen crossed from the right Fuzz (who notably curtailed his Friday night to a 4am finish) dummied and Walsh took aim from a full 20 yards. From experience the birds and squirrels in the trees behind the goal instinctively saw danger and scarpered but this time Walsh sent an unerring pile driver past the keeper. C's pushed for a third with an onslaught of corners and long throws into the mixer for which the heavy artillery routinely assembled but could not force another. Then out of the blue a totally undeserved goal from the visitors shocked the Hervines faithful. Cawley seemed in control of the situation but was blatantly fouled by the forward who then seemed to impede Rogers in his attempt to clear before the ball was slotted past a gob smacked Sunil (a mere spectator up 'til now).

After half time words of enlightenment from the gaffa C's re established control in the 2nd half but a third was not added until Fuzz broke away and squared for Baker who couldn't make up the 2 yards to reach the ball but still managed to hurry the defender into a blunder. The ball was given to Lowes who side footed a well deserved goal.

Gardener and the rapidly recovering Redpath replaced Dias and Rogers as the C's showed no mercy to their bamboozled opposition. Baker missed a couple of glorious opportunities before Lowes wrapped up the victory by finishing a fine move that began with Sunil and involved Fallon and Fuzz down the left.

A great win for Old Challoner's which will no doubt send shock waves reverberating around the league.

Man of the match: Lowes
